Our small nation with a big heart has shown yet another act of kindness as it helped The Hospice Malta fundraising telethon, Bl-Imħabba Naslu, raise a total of €428,442. The telethon came to a close at midnight on 26 June.

The telethon’s aim was to continue raising funds to cover the costs in relation of the St Michael Hospice project, that is now very close to completion. This will become Malta’s first palliative care complex and will ensure that Hospice Malta continues to provide its palliative care service free of charge to thousands of patients and their families each year.

Hospice Malta’s main role is that of providing free palliative care services to patients suffering from cancer, motor-neuron disease, end-of-life, cardiac, renal and liver diseases, amongst others. Currently there are more than 1,300 families that are receiving support, a figure that is increasing year on year.

The telethon saw the support of several prominent figures, individuals and organisations who came together both to prepare towards as well as to reach another milestone together on the 26th June.

“Year upon year, we return to ask for the public’s support to help us continue to towards our mission of opening the doors to Malta’s first palliative care facility, St Michael Hospice. This will allow us to continue providing free, high-quality palliative care to all those who need it. A big thank you goes out to all those who picked up their phones or in some way or another donated and pledged to Hospice Malta,” said Hospice Chairperson Ms. Bernadette Bonnici Kind.

Hospice Malta’s fundraising events and initiatives have returned in full force following what seems like a return to normal life following the difficulties brought about by the pandemic. As an NGO, Hospice Malta heavily relies on public support and donations to sustain its services, and the public can continue to donate via the Hospice website: https://hospicemalta.org/supporting-hospice/donations/
