Updated: 92-year-old in danger of dying after falling from window at St Vincent de Paul

Monday, 4 July 2022, 10:08 Last update: about 3 years ago

A 92-year-old woman has been taken to hospital and is at risk of dying after she fell out of a window at the St. Vincent de Paul home for the elderly.

Police told The Malta Independent that the accident happened at around 7:30am this morning.

The woman fell just over a storey out of a window.

She has been taken to Mater Dei Hospital, and police said in a later statement that she had suffered serious injuries.

Duty magistrate Elaine Mercieca is leading an inquiry, while police investigations are also ongoing.

It is the second worrying incident from the home for the elderly, after 83-year-old Karmenu Fino walked out of the home last week and hasn’t been seen since.

Fino, a dementia patient, simply walked out of the gates of the facility in the early hours of the morning and remains missing.

An inquiry has been opened into how this happened, but the MUMN – which represents nurses – has said that the incident is a result of nursing shortages: shortages which it has been warning about for months.
