Malta 68 Armenia 84 (19-15, 11-24, 18-23, 20-22)

There was a bright light shining throughout this final, as the naturalised american, Chris Jones, was unstoppable, and dictated play, to lead the Armenian side to the Gold.

This was the first ever competitive encounter between these two sides, as Malta's hectic start was not enough to dampen the fervour of Jones, aided by the other American, Andre Spight, as, between them they bagged 63 points from the Armenian tally.

Malta started off with their usual strong opening, with a blistering 15-2 advantage, but when the opposition got going, and Jones could put his stamp on the game, it began to look ominous, even though Malta still were ahead after the first session.

They kept their lead for a few minutes into the next period, but Jones was in a class of his own, putting in his treys, baggintg nine in all.

A heavy 21-0 run had Armenia dictating play, with malta pulling a coule of hoops back, for a 20-39 halftime time score.

The Jones show continued after the break, as Armenia pulle4d away again.

Malta cut down on their deficit, and also had a good ending to the session, with Armenia quite happy with the 62-48 advantage they had, going into the last quarter.

Malta rerkindled brief hope, with a starting 7-0 run, but when the triples began to sail; in once more the writing was on the wall. Jones just kept on evading the defensive traps, and sliding in his points, with malta trying for a higher scoreline till the end.

At the end of the encounter came the presentation, with Andorra getting the bronze medaols, Malta collecting the silver medals, and Armenia getting Gold, as the best side in the tournament.

Jones was voted the MVP of the games, and took his place in the best starting five, with Orhan Hacijev of Azerbaijahn, Andre Spight, of Armenia, Guillem Colom of Andorra nad Malta's Sam Deguara.
