Prime Minister Robert Abela is still refusing to consult the Opposition on the appointment of a new Ombudsman and Standards Commissioner, PN Leader Bernard Grech said on Wednesday.

Speaking during a radio interview, Grech said that finding replacement for the two public officials is “crucial.”

But the government is still dragging its feet on these two appointments, he said.

This is a government that refuses to consult with anyone, Grech said, saying that the same was happening with organisations and the constituted bodies.

Grech said these are important roles that must be filled by persons of integrity. This is why the Prime Minister has a duty to consult.

The PN Leader also said that the government is refusing to provide information requested in Parliament. “The government is being arrogant with the people,” he said.

The Nationalist Party is working hard, as evidenced by its efforts on the IVF amendments, he said, adding that the party will also remain vigilant on the work of the Attorney General and the Police Commissioner.

Grech also said the government lacks solutions on the rising cost of living. Apart from this, it is robbing the people on their energy bills.
