"Take it easy on me," said internationally known Maltese artist Shaun Farrugia in the run-up to his first ever live performance, which will be at Tuesday’s Isle of MTV.

Farrugia who recently catapulted to fame after working with Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix, will perform live for the first time at the Isle of MTV concert on Tuesday evening.

This year’s Isle of MTV comes with great anticipation, after the event was cancelled for two consecutive years because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This event is one of the biggest free music festivals around Europe, for which between 40,000 and 50,000 people are expected to attend.

Having been presented together with other famous artists Farrugia said that he feels honoured to “have the opportunity to play with all these international artists.”

Speaking about his past and how his fame came to be, he recounted how for the past 10 years he was always begging and doing whatever it takes to be in the front row of important events.

Speaking about his family, Farrugia said that “my dad is going to cry for sure.”

He said that his whole family has been in touch to show their support, especially his grandmother. The artist said that he recorded her dancing to one of his songs and posted it on TikTok which made her go viral.

“She is now famous, and she doesn’t know it,” he said.

Speaking about the Maltese population he said that “the Maltese people are incredible, and they make you feel welcome.”

Farrugia’s work has recently been featured on Love Island, where he did two covers for them, after which he has been receiving calls from several other people asking him if they could perform at their wedding - offers “which I gladly accepted.”

Asked with whom he would like to work next, he mentioned Coldplay singer Chris Martin together with Lewis Capaldi.

Farrugia said that other people shouldn’t give up on their dreams and should look abroad for further opportunities.

“I really want to help people do more,” he said.

Present for the question and answer session was also international artist Mae Muller who is better known for her summer song ‘Better Days’.

Commenting on Malta and its beaches Muller said that she managed to ‘escape’ to Blue Lagoon in Comino the day before and she recommends everyone to do it.

Asked about her expected performance for later during the day, which makes it her biggest audience yet, she said that she usually prefers a more intimate performance.

“I love to chat to the audience and have a connection with them through my lyrics as they tell a story,” she said.

Asked to mention her three dream future artist collaborations, she mentioned that she would love to work with Doja Cat and Harry Styles.

Speaking about her upcoming album she said that the side of herself she will present will be “more vulnerable, a side which I don’t usually show that much.”

Artist Baby No Money described “Malta and its people are very nice”, during his one to one interview.

Asked about his performance for this year’s Isle of MTV he said that he is not going to reveal many details apart from the fact that “I am going to be wearing only mesh, so practically naked” as he wants to surprise the audience.

On the other hand international artist French Montana revealed how he has prepared “some new tunes” for the night.

Speaking about Malta, he said that he has planned an extra day on the islands so that he can enjoy its beauty together with snorkelling.

“I am at a point in my life where I just want to play my music and enjoy it,” he said.

Montana said that although he has been in the music industry for more than a decade, he is more proud of the previous decade which made him first enter the industry.

“The previous decade was the hardest part as you have to work hard to try and get in the industry,” he said.

Commenting on the musical journey in general he said that “the moment you don’t feel nervous on stage is the moment you should not do it anymore.”
