The Malta Police Union has published images showing the state of the Valletta Police station, saying that the station is yet another which is “not an adequate working space” for officers.

Sometimes called an "open-air museum", Valletta was chosen as the European Capital of Culture in 2018. Valletta is also the sunniest city in Europe. The city is noted for its fortifications, consisting of bastions, curtains and cavaliers, along with the beauty of its Baroque palaces, gardens and churches.

“Amongst its beauties, a Tourist may also come across the Valletta Police Station,” the Malta Police Union said.

The union noted how it seems that the last sort of 'maintenance' was done in 2018 and according to a parliamentary question, only 1,900 had been spent.

“This is not an adequate working space for our Police Officers and for sure not a serene environment for victims of crime,” the union said.

“Two years down the line and the so called Malta Police Transformation Strategy is not catering for these issues, which are of utmost importance to our demotivated district officers,” it continued.

The Valletta Police Station is the second such station to come under the union’s microscope for, they say, not being an adequate place of work.

In a similar statement, they described the St. Julian’s police station as a “horror house”, saying that the members stationed there were ashamed to provide their services out of this building.
