SAN ĠILJAN JP PROJECTS... 15

BIRŻEBBUĠA FREEPORT...... 5

(3-0), (6-2), (4-2), (2-1)

Title contenders San Ġiljan JP Projects prepared in the best possible way for the last game before the play-offs against champions Neptunes. They defeated Birżebbuġa Freeport 15-5 in a match in which the scoreline clearly shows how the game developed.

Ben Plumpton, Darren Zammit and Matthew Zammit put San Ġiljan three goals in front as goalkeeper Jake Tanti was barely involved. Birżebbuġa tried to fight back in the second session and were still three goals adrift midway through the second session. But San Ġiljan scored four consecutive goals in the last three minutes of the session to practically assure themselves of the win.

San Ġiljan coach Zeljko Kovacic took advantage of the comfortable lead to rotate his players. His youngsters didn’t disappoint as Daniel Fero, Russell Caruana and Nico Schiavone all scored. Birżebbuġa reduced the gap to 13-4 by the end of the session.

Both teams knew their fate during the last session. Gabriel Sammut scored his second personal goal for Birżebbuġa while Russell Caruana and Nikolai Zammit rounded the win for San Ġiljan with two goals in the latter part of the session.
