Special edition of Maltese International Food Festival to be held in Xewkija

The special edition of the Maltese International Food Festival is set to be held in Xewking square, Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri said.

The festival is to take place between Friday 5 and Saturday 6 August. These will be two nights of culinary celebration from around the world where one can experience the goodness of Asian food, the quality of Mediterranean food, the best of European dishes and the authenticity of Gozitan food.

During the event one can also taste a wide selection of local and international beers and wines while enjoying a unique atmosphere from musicians who will play live music in the background of the Xewkija rotunda.

"This summer event has established itself in the Gozitan cultural calendar and is one of the most popular that takes place on the island of Gozitan, so much so that it attracts many Gozitans, Maltese and tourists," Minister Camilleri said.  

He added that “food is an integral part of our Maltese culture and society, and for many it is an opportunity for unity where as a community we celebrate what unites us.

The Mayor of Xewkija Hubert Saliba thanked the Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri and the organizers of this festival, who once again chose the location of Xewkija while he wished that this edition would be a success like -previous years.

For his part, Event Director Jonathan Pace explained how as organisers, this year, they are focusing on versatility, with more than 100 different dishes from around the world will be served by around 20 exhibitors.

For those who love sweets there will also be a wide selection of Gozitan sweets and ice creams and other particularly Mediterranean sweets.

A special area for children will also be set up which will also include food suitable for them.

The bus service will be operating with added routes from Mġarr shore to Xewkija and back with route 323.
