Updated: Eddie Fenech Adami hospitalised after collapse at home, is in stable condition

Former President and Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami has been hospitalised after he collapsed at his home in Friday morning.

Fenech Adami, who is 88 years old, was hospitalised after he fainted at his home and was undergoing tests at Mater Dei Hospital.

The Malta Independent is informed that he is in stable condition.

One of the political heavyweights of the second half of the 20th century, Fenech Adami served as Prime Minister between 1987 and 1996 and then against between 1998 and 2004, when he resigned as PN leader and Prime Minister after signing Malta's accession agreement to the European Union.

He served as the country's President between April 2004 and 2009.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Robert Abela, on behalf of the whole government, wished Fenech Adami a speedy recovery.

Opposition Leader Bernard Grech also wished him a speedy recovery.
