Updated: 10 arrested in police drug raid in Valletta

Ten people were arrested by the police in drug raids in Valletta and Marsa on Tuesday morning.

Days of surveillance led the police to identify a number of people who were allegedly involved in drug trafficking. O

In a statement, the police said that over the past days officers observed the movements of a 30-year-old Maltese woman and a 31-year-old foreign man, who were allegedly using at least two locations in Old Hospital Street for drug trafficking.

At 6.30am, the police arrested them in Archbishop's Street. With the two main suspects under arrest, the police raided the two residences. Officers from the Drugs Squad, Special Interventions Unit and the Valletta police district turned up in Old Hospital Street to make the arrests. Seven others - one Maltese woman and six foreign men - were arrested. Substances believed to be Cocaine, cash and other items related to drug trafficking were elevated.

This took the arrest count up to nine.

The operation then continued in Marsa, where a stable was surrounded on Triq it-Tiġrija. A Maltese 50-year-old man from Zejtun was arrested and substances believed to be cannabis, cocaine and synthetic drugs were found, ready for trafficking.
