A 21-year-old Ethiopian was arrested by police in the early hours of the morning in connection with a spate of car thefts in the Swieqi and Pembroke area.

Police said that they received information of a suspicious individual going round some cars at around 1am on Thursday.

Two officers were sent on a patrol in the area and found the man in Triq Mons. Alfredo Mifsud in Pembroke.

The man was arrested and he was found to be in possession of objects which it turned out had just been stolen from other vehicles.

Police said that investigations are still ongoing.
