A fourth session surge gave the Maltese national waterpolo team a 13-9 win over Slovenia to book a place in the final for 13th place at the European championships.

It was the first ever win during regular time for Malta – the only other victory had arrived against Turkey on penalties – and it will guarantee the best ever position in the competition.
