An elderly man was critically injured when he was hit by a motorbike in Paola on Wednesday morning, the police said.

The accident took place in Ghajn Dwieli Road at 8.30am.

The 87-year-old Paola resident was hit by a Honda driven by a 54-year-old man of Senglea.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Magistrate Elaine Mercieca is leading an inquiry.
