The Authority for the Responsible Use of Cannabis has said that the putting up of board such as the one in the photo is prohibited by law.

The Malta Independent received a photo of an advertising board which has been affixed close to Manoel Island, in Gzira.

The board does not mention anything about cannabis, but it led to questions as to whether such advertising is allowed.

This newspaper contacted the authority to check whether such advertising is illegal.

“You are correct,” this newspaper was told, “the law does not allow this kind of advertising.”

But the authority is not empowered to take action on the matter.

“This is something that can be sent to the police in order for them to take it down – the authority does not have such power,” the authority said.

Last December, Parliament approved the Responsible Use of Cannabis law which allows adults be able to legally carry up to 7g of cannabis without the risk of arrest or confiscation.

The rules also allow for the home cultivation of up to four cannabis plants. This four-plant limit applies per household, not per person.
