Jason Micallef speaks cryptically of ‘retaliation from dubious individuals’ within PL against him

The Executive Chairman of the Labour Party’s media wing ONE Productions Jason Micallef has taken to Facebook to express discontent about apparent undermining efforts against him being undertaken by people of dubious character within the PL.

Micallef was cryptic in his social media posts, but made reference to work he has done with the Labour Party in years gone by, and said that party officials need to follow a certain standard – a standard which he says some people have not followed.

“When you are a functionary in a political party and/or you occupy a post or have occupied a post for a number of years, correctness in leadership is a key and basic standard expected from the individual,” he wrote on Wednesday evening.

This is what delegates, party members, and supporters deserve, Micallef said.

“I have followed this standard, stuck to it, and proudly boast about it everywhere.  Not everyone can do that,” Micallef said.  He didn’t specify who exactly he was referring to.

He continued by saying that he had spent seven years as Labour Party general secretary and almost 12 years as the Executive Chairman at the party’s media house ONE Productions, but that he had also served in public posts where many millions had passed under his hands and “nobody ever alleged any form of incorrectness or mess.”

He said that nobody can question the regeneration of Valletta or its success.

“I never expected a well done or a thank you from those who trusted me with these appointments.  But when that correctness is undermined for ulterior motives, including as retaliation and when dubious individuals and mechanisms are used, then a major problem which merits confrontation is created,” Micallef said.

“I’ve got a lot to say after almost 25 years in public life. I will keep talking as I always have done,” Micallef said.

Micallef made no specific mention of whom he was referring to in his post.

The post came hours after another even more cryptic post about his position leading ONE Productions.

“Away from the interference and empty words of those who have ulterior motives, up until today I am still leading ONE’s stations,” Micallef wrote on Wednesday afternoon.

“When the time comes I will speak more, and in more detail.  I’ll say one thing: my integrity remains intact as it always was, and I definitely will not take advice from someone who has been on everyone’s minds.  As if,” he said.

On Thursday, Micallef wrote another post where he questioned whether we want political party stations to be keep on broadcasting, saying that there isn’t a middle ground answer.

He said that he is totally against that political party stations shut down and that he would fight against this till his last breath.

He said it would be a major blow if after 30 years, ONE would have to stop broadcasting – both from a political, social, cultural and informative aspect.

“If this happens, the Labour Party will end up without a voice or a means to share its political message,” he said.

The existence of political party stations is under threat owing to a court case filed stating that their very existence is unconstitutional.

Both the PN and the PL have defended their respective stations so far, even though they both have struggled financially.
