A new simulator for the Armed Forces of Malta costing €1.3 million was inaugurated by Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri at the army’s barracks in Hal Far.

The simulator is aimed at improving shooting training in basic, advanced, static and tactical levels and will help improve the level of professional training provided by the army. The simulator was bought through national funds and it was unveiled by Minister Byron Camilleri and AFM Commander in Chief Clinton O’Neill.

Camilleri said that through this investment, members of the army will be given specialised training in special operations where in a secure environment “soldiers can train realistic scenarios. The needs of the army are always evolving and that is why through this new system we are ensuring that their training is even more effective and competent when paired with traditional training methods.”

“We believe that delivering training hands-on as is given by the army is more effective than what is taught behind the desks. That is why we saw it wise to invest in this sector in order to help the soldiers gain more experience and elevate their capabilities in order to improve in their career.”

O’Neill said that “thanks to this investment, a huge improvement will be present in the quality of military training we can give our soldiers.”

Deputy Commander in Chief Eric Zahra stated that “Malta has now reached a new level of training where we are using artificial intelligence to prepare soldiers for new challenges. This will improve the strength of our army by helping soldiers take better tactical decisions with greater ability.”
