207 asylum seekers in Malta’s SAR zone have been rescued

Wednesday, 14 September 2022, 14:19 Last update: about 2 years ago

On Wednesday, SOS Humanity International rescued 207 of the 250 asylum seekers who were reported adrift on Monday within Malta's Search and Rescue (SAR) zone.

All 207 were rescued safely with no deaths being confirmed on board. Many people were found dehydrated including 88 minors. It is unclear what happened to the rest of the 250.

This news follows the death of 4-year-old Lebanese Loujin who died of thirst after Malta did not respond quickly enough to the distress calls to rescue 62 people within Malta's SAR zone last week.
