253 traffic accidents occurred between 1 January and the end of August 2022 alone.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri was answering a parliamentary question by PN MP Joe Giglio.

Giglio also asked how many of these accidents caused injuries, and how many were fatal.

It was revealed that 235 of the accidents resulted into someone being injured. 16 of these accidents were fatal. In the remaining two traffic accidents, inquiries have yet to determine whether the cause of death was a result of the accident.

In 2020, there were a total of 244 traffic accidents reported to the police, with 12 being fatal and 232 involving injuries. In 2021, 323 traffic accidents were registered with the police, nine of which resulted in fatalities, and 314 of which involved injuries.
