The Nationalist Party is requesting that the Permanent Commission Against Corruption and the Auditor General investigate allegations of corruption in the Marsa flyover project.

The European Union’s anti-fraud office is investigating the Marsa junction project after data found on Yorgen Fenech’s mobile phone indicated the possibility of corruption, The Times of Malta reported on Sunday

The data on the phone revealed that Fenech had a background role as a middleman in the project and that he had been promised €2 million in success fees - half of which would pass through a secret company linked to the infamous 17 Black, the report said.

The PN said that it expects the commission to carry out this investigation and produce results.

The party said that it is seeking the commission to establish whether a fair, coherent and/or diligent process was carried out, based on a principle of good governance when selecting the company Ayhanlar Yol Asfaltama.

The PN said that the investigation should also establish whether a fair, coherent and/or diligent process was carried out, based on a principle of good governance when selecting the company Shining Star Infrastructure & Construction Co. Ltd.

Furthermore, the PN wanted answers on whether the government used the expected diligence to choose this Turkish company, which turned out not to be in a good financial position; whether the government used the expected diligence when assigning the contract to the Shining Star Company which had no experience in the construction and development sector; and if there was tampering with the selection process or shortcomings in the way the contract was given.

Finally, the PN said that the investigation should ascertain whether the government could have given the contract to Shining Star when it had not as yet been registered at the time the adjudication process had not started.
