327 people have died while positive for Covid-19 this year alone.

Information requested from the health ministry shows that this number is higher than what was recorded in 2020 and 2021, where the figures stood at 219 and 260 respectively.

Health Minister Chris Fearne recently said that that Covid-19 has become an endemic, whilst advising the public to take the jab once a year, as with influenza.

In total, there were nine persons under the age of 40 who died whilst testing positive for Covid-19 since 2020.

The only two deaths of people aged 29 and under happened this year. One of these victims was between the age of 20 to 24.

The newsroom also asked for the genders of the Covid victims since the 26th of March 2022, which was the last date on which ages and genders for Covid-19 related deaths were published. However, these were not included in the ministry’s response.

During a press conference last week the government also announced that it is preparing for a spike in the number of hospital admissions as it is increasing the bed count in Boffa Hospital by 60.

Covid-19 jabs, together with the Influenza one will be available for the whole nation starting the 31 of October. However for those aged over 55, people with chronic conditions, pregnant women, people in institutions and children aged between 6 months and five years can be vaccinated as from 17 October.

Fearne said that the government has bought 132,000 influenza vaccines, and is ready to purchase more if the take-up is higher. 17,000 of them with be anti-influenza nasal sprays to be given to children.
