Deputy Minister and Minister for Health, Chris Fearne promised to reopen the childcare centre at Mater Dei Hospital and revealed that it was closed because it was hardly used.

He said this during parliament and expressed his disagreement with it closing down in the first place. However, he said that he understood why it was closed, saying that it was not used that much.

On Monday morning, parents took their children to the childcare centre only to find it closed.

It is understood that apart from issues related to costs, the childcare centre was closed because it did not have the necessary licensing.

Sources close to the issue have also said that assessments are being carried out in order for the facility and its operations to be licensed.

Fearne emphasised the importance of a childcare centre at Mater Dei and revealed that he has started talking to the Education Ministry to make sure this childcare centre reopens.
