Investment needed in new economic niches - PN

Saturday, 15 October 2022, 12:37 Last update: about 3 years ago

For workers and professionals to live a better quality life, it is necessary for the government to invest in new economic niches, said the PN in a statement on Saturday.

“In this way we not only create work, but we create better quality work, with value added and profitable wages. In this way, many workers move forward, whilst also allowing for national social mobility to increase."

The PN said that this has already been created in the past, with wise decisions, when various sectors were created such as the financial services sector, gaming, maritime, aviation and pharmaceuticals, with all of them employing thousands of workers and professionals.

To enter each field there was a long process with a clear economic vision which took years.

“This economic vision together with the courage of the workers and professionals, and the courage and wisdom of the Maltese and Gozitan entrepreneurs, led to our country being able to combat various crises.”

Additionally the PN said that this is the reason why the Government cannot give up on creating new economic sectors in our economy.

Next week the Opposition will launch its pre-budget document after discussions with constituted bodies, unions and civil society.

Among others, the pre-budget will include several points for discussion on how a more deserving quality of life can be achieved.

The statement was signed by PN Spokesperson for Finance Jerome Caruana Cilia and PN Spokesperson for Economy Ivan J. Bartolo.
