The body of a woman was pulled out from the sea in Gozo, after it was spotted next to Marsalforn at 11:15 am this morning, police said in a statement.

Members of the Armed Forces of Malta were called onto the scene and retrieved the body before bringing it ashore at Mgarr Harbour.

The police said that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, therefore the woman’s identity is still unknown.

A magisterial inquiry was opened by Magistrate Bridgette Sultana.

An autopsy is set to take place in order to establish the cause of death of the woman.

Police investigations are still ongoing.
