The Nationalist Party wants Prime Minister Robert Abela to correct his asset declaration for the year 2021 to reveal how much money he earned from renting property to Russian citizens.

In a statement, the PN's spokesman for justice Karol Aquilina is also requesting Abela to ask the ministers and the parliamentary secretaries to correct their assets declarations too.

Aquilina said that no one believes the ministers and the parliamentary secretaries who declared no income, property or investments during the year 2021.

The PN found what is said were false statements made by ministers and parliamentary secretaries to be unacceptable behaviour. It said that these actions are depriving the public and journalists of their right to know and their right to hold public officials accountable for their actions.

Aquilina also quoted the code of ethics for ministers and parliamentary secretaries: “As soon as a Minister is given the office, he must immediately give an account of his assets and interests to the Cabinet Secretary. Any interest that may reveal a perception of a conflict of interest or a real conflict of interest then they must be indicated to the Cabinet Secretary.”

Aquilina said that Abela, the ministers and the parliamentary secretaries must follow this law.

“If this does not happen, the Prime Minister will be confirming what his own former Minister said: ‘in our country, there is a law for gods and another law for animals’,” Aquilina said.
