Three in hospital after two separate traffic accidents

A motorcyclist and two other men were hospitalised on Sunday after being involved in two separate traffic accidents, police said on Monday morning.

In a statement, the police said that the first accident happened at 1pm in Triq il-Kbira San Guzepp in Hamrun, when a crash occurred between a Honda motorcycle being ridden by a 19-year-old from Hamrun and a Toyota Belta being driven by a 21-year-old Libyan national who lives in San Gwann.

The 19-year-old was hospitalised and certified as having suffered grievous injuries.

The second crash happened at around 8:30p in Triq tal-Papa in Birzebbuga, and preliminary investigations showed that a 27-year-old from Birzebbuga lost control of his Land Rover Defender, crashed into an electricity pole and overturned.

Two men – aged 30 and 34 – who are both from Zejtun were passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

The driver of the Land Rover was certified as having suffered serious injuries, while the 30-year-old passenger was certified as having suffered grievous injuries.

Duty magistrate Monica Vella is leading an inquiry into the Birzebbuga crash.

Police said that investigations into both crash are ongoing.
