A four-year-old girl was hospitalised after she fell a storey into a shaft, police said on Tuesday.

Police said in a statement that the force was informed of the accident at around 3pm, having been told that a four-year-old girl had been taken to Mater Dei Hospital after she suffered injuries in a fall.

Preliminary investigations resulted that the girl had fallen around a storey into a shaft at the place she lives in Triq id-Dragun in Qormi at around 1pm.

She was later certified as suffering from grievous injuries.

The police said that their investigations are still ongoing.
