EPPO investigating Marsa Junction project - Cassola

Thursday, 17 November 2022, 07:44 Last update: about 2 years ago

The European Public Prosecutor's office is investigating allegations made by independent candidate Arnold Cassola on the Marsa Junction Project.

Cassola confirmed the investigation had started after he was summoned to the Finance Crime Unit offices in Santa Venera over the case.

Cassola last week gave police investigators a cache of Whatsapp messages which he says supports claims of corruption in the awarding of the tender for the project.

Infrastructure Malta has refused a Freedom of Information request filed by Cassola to obtain copies of documents such as tenders, direct orders, and agreements related to the Marsa junction project.

“Yesterday I was summoned to the FCID (Financial Crime Unit, Malta) offices in Santa Venera,” Cassola said in a statement Thursday.

“The police officers informed me that they had been asked by the European Public Prosecutor's office (EPPO) to ask me two specific questions in relation to the documentation I had presented concerning the whatsapp and email messages I have handed over to the police authorities.

“I was also asked if I had anything new to add.

“Something which I did, and then I confirmed my statement by signing it".
