Police are investigating a case of a stray cat killed in Mqabba.
On Monday, the police received a report that a dead cat was found in a box, left at the door of its cat feeder, Claire Briffa, in Triq l-Ispnar, Mqabba. Police investigations started to find the perpetrator.
Former PN MP Mario Galea asked Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa in a Facebook post, to see to it that a serious investigation is carried out.
The cat, named Misha, was captured, killed, and left in a cardboard box for its feeder to find. Briffa had been taking care of Misha for the past 10 years, and was the one to find it.
The cat was found with what looks like a black pole on its body, with black liquid on its mouth. Misha was covered with a piece of cardboard with three columns marked 'yes', 'no' and 'maybe'. Underneath 'yes' was the number '1', followed by 'No', with the number '2', and the last 'maybe' with the number '3'.
Briffa told Times of Malta that she believes the message was addressed to her, and that the perpetrator might do it again.
She contacted the Real Animal Rights Foundation (RAR) whose co-founder, Romina Frendo had organised transport to pick up Misha's body to be taken to the vet for an autopsy, the results of which should be finalised by Thursday.
The NGO covered all the vet and autopsy costs.
Briffa appealed to the public for information about who placed the box on her road with the cat's body.
She also called on the government to push for stronger recognition of animal welfare rights.
RAR has pledged a €300 reward for anyone who provides information that can lead to the identification of the perpetrator.
