Former waterpolo player and swimmer Chris Dowling has passed away, aged 78, his family said.

Dowling had represented Malta at the Rome Olympic Games in 1960, still aged 16. He had taken part on the 100 metres freestyle, and had carried Malta’s flag at the opening ceremony.

He had also taken part in the Mediterranean Games in Naples in 1963.

He played waterpolo for Balluta WPC, now renamed San Giljan, forming what was then known as the Terrible Twins duo with Alfred Griscti,

He had retired in 1973.
