274 social housing applicants live in overcrowded homes

Tuesday, 24 January 2023, 19:02 Last update: about 2 years ago

There are 274 social housing applicants who live in homes that are overcrowded and 27 applicants that are living in properties considered substandard, Social Accommodation Minister Roderick Galdes said on Tuesday.

He was responding to a parliamentary question asked by PN MP Ivan Bartolo. Galdes qualified a statement he had made the previous day, where he said that the problem of overcrowding in housing authority properties is a result of intergenerational poverty, stemming from a lack of education. They may also, he said, be a result of teenage pregnancies.
