No injuries resulting from the storm have been reported to the police, a communications officer told The Malta Independent.

Storm Helios battered the islands yesterday and last night, resulting in damage being seen in several areas. A balcony collapsed in Gharb onto some vehicles, a boulder fell onto a building in Popeye's Village, a drop-ceiling fell at The Malta International Airport's La Vallette lounge, among other things.

This morning, reports have been making the rounds that part of the 17th century coastal tower in Ghajn Tuffieha also collapsed.

Yesterday, the Met Office had issued an Orange warning due to strong winds. Today, a yellow warning is in effect: "Be Aware (yellow): The South Southeast wind will be strong over the Maltese Islands which will back strong to very strong Easterly. This warning is valid till 10/2100 local time."

Rain and heavy downpour yesterday resulted in flooding in some areas.

The police told this newsroom that while it has not had any reports of injuries, there were reports of small damage.

The Gozo ferry operators said that due to the current bad weather forecast, Gozo Channel ferry operations may be delayed or even cancelled today in the afternoon.
