Bathing water quality in Malta was praised as Great Britain seeks to “take lessons” in a bid to improve the situation there.

In an article “What Britain can learn from Europe about having cleaner water”, published in The Times (of London) yesterday, it is reported that in 2020, the last year in which the UK contributed data to the European Environment Agency’s bathing water rankings, it came last.

Austria came first, with 97.7 per cent of bathing water rated excellent, followed by Malta with 96.6 per cent and Croatia in third place with 95.7 per cent.

Malta’s beaches are a draw for tourists and designated bathing sites are clean. Of 87 bathing sites in Malta, 84 are excellent, including many urban beaches, the report says.
