Għadira road works to be completed after summer - Bartolo

Tuesday, 14 March 2023, 13:48 Last update: about 2 years ago

The work on the promenade at Ghadira will not be finished before June, and is likely to extend beyond the summer, Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo said.

The project started on October 2021 with the northbound section of the road, while the southbound stretch began at the end of last summer and was expected to be finished by June.

But it is unlikely that the deadline will be met, with the work now expected to last beyond the summer season.

The minister, speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, took aim at the Nationalist Party which neglected the promenade in its time in government.

He acknowledged that the current works have caused traffic delays and inconvenience but argued that this was necessary for all the infrastructural works to be carried out properly.

The works includes the reconstruction of pedestrian areas, the installation of new lights, CCTV systems, fountains and public convenience facilities as well as free wifi. Enemalta is currently initiating cable laying works.

He said that the work will be “temporarily completed” by June, hinting that this is being done to reduce inconvenience at the peak of summer, with Ghadira being one of the more popular bays. The works will be fully completed at a later stage.

He did not say which parts of the €2 million project would be completed or when the project would be finished.
