TECH uses Harvard Case Method in its academic programmes to improve learning systems

Tuesday, 28 March 2023, 08:00 Last update: about 2 years ago

The use of this pedagogical methodology, based on the presentation of real cases, has demonstrated unprecedented academic efficiency, positioning TECH as the best online university in the world at the forefront of distance education.

TECH University of Technology, in its continuous quest to improve learning systems, has included the Harvard Case Method in its educational system. A pioneer in introducing this approach in online academic programmes, TECH provides its students with real business cases, which allows them to learn from real situations that are totally feasible in today's professional context. As a result, graduates are fully prepared to face the world of work and become highly valued assets for companies.

"TECH provides its students with real business cases, which allows them to learn from real situations that are totally feasible in today's professional context".

In this regard, and in accordance with the highest international standards, the overall score of TECH's learning system is 8.01. Thanks to this, the academic centre has been recognised by Forbes as "the best online university in the world", not only due to its cutting-edge teaching methodology, which includes up to 16 didactic elements in each lesson, but also to its first-class content and a specialised teaching staff at the forefront of each of the areas of study.

Thanks to this, it has managed to position itself as a benchmark in terms of distance education. It currently has more than 100,000 students and 500,000 graduates from around 150 countries, making it the largest digital university in the world.

Learning by doing: the main strength of the Harvard Case Method

Since its founding in 2015 under the leadership of the TECH educational group, this university has set itself the goal of breaking the foundations of traditional teaching. To achieve this goal, it integrated the Case Method, created in 1912 by Harvard Business School, into its academic programmes.

This methodology was designed to enhance the academic skills of law students. To this end, the teaching team decided to implement an active learning model so that they could easily work in real situations through practice. In this way, they were not limited to just learning concepts and laws in a monotonous way, but they discovered a new, totally active study method that allowed them to apply what they had learned in a real way.

The project showed excellent results and Harvard decided to integrate it as its standard strategy in all faculties. It is now recognised as one of the best learning techniques in leading business schools around the world, as it improves management skills and creates an important connection between academia and real business cases.

"Cases give students the opportunity to think about and apply the knowledge they learn in lectures and textbooks in real situations, and to produce solutions and conclusions. In other words, the case method teaches real-world thinking," notes William Ellet of the Havard Business Review.

Reinforcing knowledge through repetition: Relearning

But TECH University of Technology does not only stand out for using the Harvard Case Method. Its success is based on the combination of this important pedagogical approach with the best online teaching methodology: Relearning. This procedure breaks away from traditional teaching techniques to put the student at the centre of the equation, providing them with the best content in different formats. In this way, they are able to review and reiterate the key concepts of each subject and learn to apply them in a real environment.

Along the same lines, and according to multiple scientific research, repetition is the best way to learn. For this reason, TECH offers between 8 and 16 repetitions of each key concept within the same lesson, each one presented in a different way in order to ensure that the knowledge is fully consolidated during the study process.

Thus, in order to apply this methodology effectively, TECH focuses on providing the student with didactic materials in different formats: texts, interactive videos, illustrations and knowledge maps, among others. All of them are designed by qualified teachers who focus their work on combining real cases with the resolution of complex situations through simulation, the study of contexts applied to each professional career and learning based on repetition, through audios, videos, presentations, animations, images, etc.

"The Relearning method breaks with traditional teaching techniques by offering the learner the best content in different formats. In this way, they get to review and reiterate the key concepts of each subject and learn to apply them in a real environment".

The implementation of this system, together with the growth and expansion of TECH internationally, has made it possible for the university to now have more than 10,000 academic programmes. All of them are continuously updated to ensure that professionals can study in a contextualised manner and adapted to today's world.  In addition, TECH has implemented tools such as psychometric models, based on the learning outcomes and competencies that students must acquire to pass the course, knowing how to put into practice everything they have studied in a realistic way.

The essence of this methodology is to provide confidence and autonomy to the graduate. In this way, the knowledge is permanently anchored in the student, who can also learn at their own pace and according to their own time and lifestyle, which is unthinkable with traditional learning methods. Thanks to the results of this pedagogical model, TECH has received multiple international scientific awards and has been recognised, thanks to its innovative system, as the largest digital university in the world.
