Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne has been nominated for the position of President of the sixty-seventh edition of the World Health Assembly, organized by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Fearne expressed his gratitude for the confidence placed in his leadership in the health sector and thanked European Regional Director Hans Kluge and the WHO Regional Committee for the European Region for the nomination.
"It is an honor for a Maltese to lead the World Health Assembly, and this nomination further strengthens Malta's reputation in the health sector on an international scale," stated Fearne.
Fearne also reaffirmed his commitment as Minister for Health in Malta to ensure that the sector continues to recover from the effects of the pandemic.
Were he to be elected as President of this Assembly, Fearne would lead a series of meetings in which health leaders from the 194 Member States of the World Health Organization are expected to participate.
The culmination of the one-year term that comes with this position is the annual Assembly, which is considered a key event for the leadership of the WHO, where Member States determine the priorities and policies of the Organization for the coming year.
