Education Minister Clifton Grima announced that the 2024-2030 National Education Strategy will be written up by all stakeholders in the education sector, including educators.

Grima announced this “new concept” on Monday at Handaq Middle School, Zebbug, accompanied by Permanent Secretary Matthew Vella.

Grima explained how whereas before the strategy document would be created by experts within the Ministry and then presented to the public, in this case, the document will be drawn up with the help of all the stakeholders in the education sector, before being open for public consultation.

There is an educational route, to develop these children.

“At the heart of this investment are the educators,” he said.

Grima said that in order to make sure that they are offering the necessary support to strengthen this sector, they are including educators who have a role to play when writing up this document.

Although he acknowledged that it is an easier process to publish the document directly from the experts within the Ministry, the Ministry wants to include the stakeholders as they know the reality.

“Today you have the possibility to make a difference, the possibility to continue being relevant in shaping the educational route of our children,” he added.

He said that the goal of this strategy will be to give a “solid base” for the sector and then present this to the public for public consultation.

Vella said that this new way of doing things will limit any issues the Ministry might face when it comes to implementing them. He also spoke about the importance of offering quality education to students.

Later on in the presentation, it was revealed that the strategy will focus on removing the gender gap, supporting students at risk of poverty and from low socio-economic status, increasing participation in lifelong learning and raising levels of student retainment and attainment in further vocational and tertiary education.
