Government is to offer financial assistance for families with children with autism to create sensory rooms in their own homes, through the "Sensability" scheme, as well as other schemes and services.

Prime Minister Robert Abela visited the Hand-in-Hand school for children with autism in Rabat with his wife Lydia Abela, where he said that inclusion does not just mean awareness, but also that every person has the tangible opportunity to use their abilities to achieve their aspirations.

The school offers a therapy program based on Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) for children with autism, which is aimed at providing them not only with social skills but also skills to live independently. Government is funding this specialized service offered by the school.

Abela praised the work being done by the school's management and staff, who are investing in the abilities of the students in an adapted environment.

“This pilot project is making a difference in the quality of life for children and their families,” he said.

He continued that these are the principles government believes in, as reflected in its work to improve the carer's grant and invest in personal assistants to help individuals live more independently in society.

Government is also introducing specific schemes and services, including the "Sensability" scheme, with the measures stemming from the experiences of families, which government will continue to invest and support.
