Two men were arrested by police on Saturday night after they allegedly stole a taxi and robbed its driver in Msida.
Police said in a statement that they were informed of a request for assistance at around 9pm in Triq il-Wied tal-Imsida, in Msida, where it resulted that two men had booked a taxi service and then threatened the driver of the taxi with a weapon, took his money and escaped from the scene with his vehicle.
A search was immediately mounted, and the vehicle was found and surrounded around an hour later in Triq il-Harrub.
Two men, one of whom was the person who allegedly carried out the theft, were found close by and arrested.
The men are a 33-year-old from Msida and a 53-year-old from Mosta.
Several objects related to the case were found on their person during a search.
Police said that the duo are being held at the police lock-up in Floriana while investigations continue, while magistrate Marse-Ann Farrugia is also leading an inquiry.
