The Nationalist Party said that there should be a tax rebate on the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for employees to support them deal with the high cost of living, the PN said in a statement.

The PN said that the COLA announced in the 2023 Budget was €9.90 per week, however, from that amount employees were charged social security contributions and income tax.

The PN said that unlike what is currently taking place, it wants people to have more disposable income, especially during difficult times.

The high cost of living is affecting the quality of life of people who have a low income, the PN said.

To mitigate the effects of the increased cost of living, the PN said that there should be a fund to help importers to bring in products, to make products more accessible for farmers and villagers.

Lastly, the PN asked the government to stop “pigging out” and wasting money and instead spend that money on vulnerable families and people.

The statement was signed by PN MPs Ivan Castillo, Jerome Caruana Cilia and Albert Buttigieg.
