Prime Minister Robert Abela visited the extensive works being done at the Rabat Primary School and the Santa Lucija Secondary School on Monday.
With an investment of €3.5 million, the government is seeking to transform the Rabat Primary into a top level school. Previously operating from two different buildings, now the school will start operating from one fully-equipped building.
During the visit to the school which forms part of San Nikola College, Abela was shown ongoing works by the management of the Foundation for Tomorrow's Schools (FTS), where it was explained that the aim of the project is for this school to offer a modern, accessible and comfortable educational space for children and educators ,alike.
Starting this coming September, this school will accommodate around 400 children in 33 classrooms that will also be equipped for specific subjects such as art and music, while ten classrooms will be reserved for kindergarten level.
Through this investment, the students will have an indoor gym, outdoor recreational spaces, a multi-sensory room, and an industrial kitchen together with a space dedicated to the Breakfast club attendees.
Energy efficient measures are also being implemented on this building.
Another Capital investment of €4.6 million is also being carried out on the secondary school of Santa Lucija, which forms part of Saint Thomas More College. The school opened its doors in the nineties, and did not include a hall. This means that students and educators had to make use of halls outside the school complex for various activities. However, this issue has now been addressed as now the school will feature a new hall that will be used as a theatre amongst other things.
After visiting the ongoing works on this hall, Abela also made his way to an adjacent new sports complex that is in its final building stages.
The complex features a roof garden, which automatically translates into more recreational space for students and the community.
On the whol,e Abela said that these projects will offer the best space to students to develop their full potential and aspirations.
Prime Minister Abela was accompanied by the Minister for Education, Clifton Grima. In both localities the respective mayors, the Mayor of Rabat, Sandro Craus, and the Mayor of Santa Lucija, Charmaine St John, also attended.
