Leader of the Opposition Bernard Grech reiterated the Nationalist Party's call to change Malta's economic model, which he said should depend on quality instead of quantity.
During an interview on Net FM, Grech referred to the economic success Malta experienced in the past due to a PN government which introduced the economic pillars of tourism, pharmaceuticals and gaming.
Today's government benefits from these pre-established economic pillars, Grech said, but it did not plan or anticipate further economic pillars that would continue to strengthen the economy, he added.
Instead, the government is simply interested in importing more cheap labour which is ruining the quality of life, Grech added.
Grech said that the PN has already spoken about branching out and including the meta-verse, digital games and other economic pillars which do not burden Malta's environment more than it already suffers.
When referring to the PN's previous electoral manifesto, Grech said that the PN will continue to actively work on improving this vision for the next general election.
As things stand, Prime Minister Robert Abela "wants to let people suffer" as he shows no intention of changing the current economic model, Grech said.
Elaborating on Malta's poor quality of life, Grech referred to the health sector and how the government was more interested in giving Vitals Global Healthcare and Steward Health Care over €400 million of taxpayer money, instead of investing it to improve the health sector.
Particularly he mentioned chemotherapy patients who are forced to go to the community chest fund because the "government is not carrying out its duty," Grech said. Grech added that he understood the importance of the community chest fund, but condemned the government for depending on it instead of carrying the responsibility.
When mentioning young people leaving the country, he said that he does not want to see young people leave Malta because they have given up or because there are no options here.
