Yesterday marked the closing date of applications for the fourth edition of Mużika Mużika. Festivals Malta announced that like every year, the agency received a positive response from composers, authors, singers, and local bands as numerous applications were submitted.
Festivals Malta CEO Frans Agius said, "For another year, the substantial amount of submissions received by Festivals Malta shows the interest that local artists have for this festival. Our aim is to always keep Maltese music at the forefront of this festival, and this result encourages us to continue to nurture Mużika Mużika's legacy."
The Mużika Mużika Board, together with the Festivals Malta team, will now start working on selecting the 20 semi-finalists who will take part in the fourth edition of the festival. The next phase consists of evaluation sessions by an expert jury where the best 40 songs will be selected. From there the selected songs will be performed live, accompanied by a backing track, in front of a different jury than the previous one. In this final phase, the 20 semi-finalist songs that will compete in the festival in March of next year, will be selected.
"This process is a very important one. A different jury in each phase not only ensures impartiality in the decisions taken, but also guarantees the quality of the songs selected, an aspect that this festival is so well known for", Mr Agius concluded.
The Mużika Mużika semi-finalists will be announced after the live auditions which will take place in November. These will be announced through a separate press statement. Mużika Mużika 2024 will take place between March 14 and 16 next year. For more information on the festival visit www.muzikamuzika.mt.
