The ‘Pink Box Campaign’, an initiative started by the Western Regional Council with the main objective of ‘continuing to break the stigma and raising more awareness on femininity and women’s health care”, has been launched. The campaign will continue throughout the month of November.
Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli said that as part of this initiative, the Western Regional Council will be distributing pink boxes filled with sanitary products to its ten local councils as well as five secondary schools within the region. These products will be available for use by school and local council workers as well as students.
Civelli regarded the Western Regional Council with praise for its “commitment in favour of this initiative” and added that this initiative is one of many being carried out by the regional councils in the heart of their communities.
She said that the Government is committed to continuing to strengthen the regional councils by supporting them through the necessary resources with the intention of continuing to carry out initiatives and implementing projects which will help improve the quality of life of residents. She added that the Government is committed to keeping quality of life at the centre of the Government’s work.
Executive Secretary of the Western Regional Council Elke Sghendo explained that the idea for this initiative was inspired by a Polish NGO which promotes the importance of women’s health care. She said that this initiative complements another collaborative campaign with Malta Guides which focuses on the importance of empowering women in society.
