Birkirkara found once again the winning touch as they defeated neighbours Balzan by a 3—0 scoreline. A win which put the Stripes in third place of the league standings on ten points from six matches.

The Stripes were wise enough to make the best of a rather bumpy Balzan rearguard who surely were not at their best.

Birkirkara took an early lead  when on 16 minutes  off a Paul Mbong corner a melee ensued in the Balzan area with the ball falling into Yannick Yankam’s direction who slotted the ball home from close range.

Tedesco’s boys were now doing all the running and eight minutes from the end of the first half they doubled their lead. The Balzan defence failed to clear and in came Enmy Pena Beltre who once making his way into the opposing area was brought down by Triston Caruana. The match official pointed to the penalty spot and from the resultant kick Andrei Ciolacu made no mistake.

A minute from the end of the first half Balzan failed to reduce the gap and come back into the equation when de Souza blasted over the bar though well placed. 

Birkirkara sealed the issue two minutes after the change of ends when Raso’s header didn’t have the desired power to reach goalkeeper Golovic and in came Ciolacu who after rounding the opposing goalkeeper put the ball  into an empty net.

Balzan tried to mount a reaction but failed to be of any danger to the Stripes rearguard who never were under any threat. And it was Birkirkara who went near to scoring their fourth when fourteen minutes from the end of the match a low drive by Gambin just missed the target.

On 84 minutes a direct free kick by de Souza sailed over the bar with Birkirkara controlling the proceedings till the end and thus cruising to a very important morale boosting win.
