Austrian National Day was celebrated on 26th of October at Villa Arrigo, Naxxar.

It was attended by H.E. President George Vella and Mrs Vella, Government ministers of the Republic of Malta, the Apostolic Nuncio, Ambassadors, and other distinguished guests.

Many Austrians and Maltese friends of Austria joined in the celebration of partnership and friendship between the two countries.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Austria, H.E. Erika Bernhard thanked, particularly, in her speech the co-host Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Austria, Mr Michael Bianchi, for his dedication and continuous support.

Her Excellency emphasised on the importance of the shared status of both countries as neutral EU member states. Austria and Malta share many positions in the EU security and defence policy.

At the same time, she mentioned that both countries always show solidarity with EU policies. Furthermore, Austria and Malta enjoy a successful cooperation in business and economic matters.

She emphasized that many cultural projects foster Austrian-Maltese cooperation and that the Austrians living in Malta contribute to the positive perception of Austria in Malta.
