2023 saw the highest number of patient appointments at the recurrent miscarriage clinic within the Outpatients department at Mater Dei hospital, data tabled in parliament on Tuesday shows.
The data published by Health Minister Chris Fearne, which was requested by PN MP Claudette Buttigieg, showed that a until October of this year, the clinic had seen a total of 474 patients.
At the recurrent miscarriage clinic, patients are offered blood tests and pelvic exams amongst other tests in order to identify the reasons behind their multiple miscarriages.
In comparison to previous years, with data tracking back to 2014, in 2023 the clinic has seen the most patients, followed by 437 in 2022 and 419 in 2019.
A numerical jump is recorded from the 279 recorded patients attending the clinic in 2018, to the 419 recorded patients in 2019.
