Waterpolo: San Giljan win Enemed Cup for the fourth time

Thursday, 14 December 2023, 07:54 Last update: about 6 months ago

San Giljan JP Products confirmed their dominance in waterpolo, winning their eighth consecutive competition and the fourth Enemed Cup, which was being held for the seventh time.

San Giljan had a great start to the game, piling up a five-goal lead by the end of the first session, which enabled them to remain in control of the contest. Sliema’s efforts in the third session brought them closer to the saints but it was never enough to put the champions in difficulty.

San Giljan had Ben Plumpton in the line-up on a short return from his playing time abroad, while Sliema had Jamie Gambin, Zach Mizzi and Jayden Cutajar missing.

The saints took a 3-0 lead and, although Sliema reduced the arrears, goals from Darren Zammit and Nico Schiavone gave San Giljan a comfortable 7-2 advantage at the end of the first session.

The lead grew to 12-4 by the change of ends, with Sliema reducing the distance to 12-6 by the end of the third. But San Giljan remained well in control to close off the game.
