A three-year-old boy was found seriously injured in Mellieha after the child went missing from a campsite, the police said in a statement on Tuesday morning.

At around 3am on Tuesday, the police received a call for assistance from a campsite in the Ahrax area of Mellieha, as the family of a three-year-old boy couldn't find him. Police officers went on site and called the Civil Protection Department and a medical team for further assistance. "Fortunately, the boy was found soon after cliffside searches began," the police said in a statement. A police spokesperson later said the boy was found on the side of a cliff.

He was lifted up by members of the CPD and taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. He was certified as having suffered serious injuries. Magistrate Giannella Camilleri Busuttil launched an inquiry and investigations are ongoing.
