2,511 non-Maltese persons acquired Maltese citizenship in 2023

There was a total of 2,511 people who acquired Maltese citizenship in 2023, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri revealed on Monday.

Camilleri was answering a parliamentary question made by PN MP Graziella Galea, who asked on the number of non-Maltese persons who were granted Maltese citizenship in 2023, month by month.

Galea also asked for details on natural and new citizenships, persons who bought the Maltese citizenship, those who were granted citizenship based on merit or other reasons, as well as the person's citizenship before being granted the Maltese one, country by country.

Camilleri only provided the number of non-Maltese persons who acquired Maltese citizenship in 2023, month by month. There were 2,511 non-Maltese persons who were granted Maltese citizenship last year.

The month of March, 2023, recorded the highest number of persons who were granted citizenship, with 298 non-Maltese persons acquiring citizenship, followed by May of that year, where 275 persons acquired Maltese citizenship.

In December, the lowest number of non-Maltese persons acquiring citizenship was recorded, that of 90 persons.
