Carnival enthusiasts have been let down by the news from National Heritage Minister Owen Bonnici that the supposed Carnival Village in Marsa remains a mere fantasy, the Nationalist Party said in a statement Wednesday.

In the past few days, we had another confirmation of how Robert Abela's government is treating artists, as it continues to postpone the electoral commitment to build the Carnival Village, the PN said.

It said how as Carnival days are nearing “we continue to witness the rich talent of many Carnival artists and enthusiasts, as the result of a year of work for the Carnival days is about to be revealed,” adding that the PN continues to advocate for all necessary resources be provided to Carnival artists.

“It is also worth mentioning that, besides the time and dedication of these individuals, they also invest a significant amount of money, to the point that many of them end up using their own funds to create high-quality artistic work”.

Furthermore, the PN said that these individuals are working in inadequate spaces, and a significant portion of them lacks suitable areas in their garages, where their health and safety are compromised.

“This is another commitment that this Government has not fulfilled in the last 11 years.”

The PN said that it is questioning and pressuring for the completion of this Village, “but the Labour Government continues to drag its feet.”
